New French Home? Learning French In a Nutshell

Epcot - France Pavilion by Matt Pasant

Buying a French property? French is not as hard to learn as some people claim. Learning languages is a normal human capacity, one that almost everyone shares. To learn a new language you first have to make sure you approach it in the right way, with a method of study that is right for the way you learn. Each person learns language in his or her own way. To be sure, some have a gift for learning languages and pick up the grammar and structural rules more quickly than others. These principles and tips will help you learn languages more easily.

It's always really great if you can recruit a fluent French speaker to help you learn. This person's understanding will be a great help with proper usage and pronunciation. One terrific advantage here is you'll really feel more comfortable with trying new things and won't be worried about making any mistakes. Plus, your friend's help will just make it all more fun for you. One nice thing is this friend will come to know you and the best way for you to learn. You'll end-up learning faster and better because the lessons can become more individualized. Another thing you might do is hire a tutor. A good tutor can allow you to make much faster progress. Your tutor will be able to give you the kind of instruction you'd get if you signed up for a class; this way you can avoid having to take a class and get the same benefits. A tutor can be the ideal answer for anyone who finds it difficult to learn from books or online courses but may have anxiety about taking a class. A tutor can give you practice speaking in French and can also give you the kind of formal instruction that is helpful if you ever visit France or another country where French is spoken.

Start thinking in your new language. When you find yourself thinking something, do a translation in your head into French. Thinking in the new language will become habitual if you practice this often. Once you can think in another language, you'll find that it's much easier to speak it out loud. What this does is get you speaking the new language internally, which makes it much more natural when you speak out loud. There are so many different ways to learn French; it can be hard to know which method to pick for yourself. Try a few types of methods until you find what works the best. Don't stop here! You can do it!
